Jim Mackey

Jim began his insurance career in 1964. He worked as a claims adjuster for nationally known companies such as Hartford and United Pacific-Reliance. Jim’s eleven years of experience as an adjuster gave him an in-depth knowledge of coverages and taught him how to best protect the interests of his clients.

In 1975, Jim began his career as an independent insurance agent by joining the family business, Adam Serpa Insurance Agency, established by his father-in-law in 1948. Jim and his wife Kathy have expanded the single office of Adam Serpa Insurance Agency to include three other branch offices located throughout California. Over the years, Jim has enjoyed serving individual personal clients and the challenge of managing and servicing large diversified commercial operations, non-profit organizations, and public entities. Jim continues to maintain a cutting edge knowledge of today's complex insurance industry and its various products.

Jim and Kathy reside in Hanford and are very active in several community and church activities. Jim has served on various boards and insurance industry councils.

Jason Mackey

CPCU

Jason joined the family business in 1998 after graduating from Westmont College with a degree in Philosophy. He began as a temporary employee to help out during a staffing shortage, but quickly realized he had a knack for the business. Over the next several years, Jason worked his way up through the Commercial lines department, and currently serves a dual role as both producing agent and manager of that department.

Jason’s experience has shown him the need for all businesses, whether big or small, to be properly covered when the unforeseen happens. Equally important is the level of service provided to each client, and he strives to let each of his customers know that their needs are his top priority. He believes, “insurance is the one thing you buy and hope you never have to use. So, it’s important to make the whole process as easy and enjoyable as possible.”

Jason and his wife are active in their church and enjoy the opportunities for service and volunteering that this provides. They are committed to raising their family in the Central Valley and being active members of their local community for a long time.

Adam Mackey

CIC, CRM, CISR

Adam began his insurance career in 2006 by joining Mackey & Mackey. Prior to this he spent several years managing two high volume restaurants and later teaching English at Fresno City College. He received his B.A. from Westmont College in Santa Barbara and did his post-graduate work at California State University in Fresno.

In the short time since joining the agency he has already gained several professional designations, including Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), and Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR). He looks forward to earning further and even more distinguished designations as he continues to expand his insurance knowledge and experience.

Adam knows that few people like to think about insurance; that’s why he provides his clients with a “hands on” insurance experience, giving them all the information, and helping them understand it, so they can make the choices that are right for their family or business. He believes that proper insurance protection isn’t just another bill; it’s the peace of mind that after circumstances take an unexpected turn the life you’ve built can go on.

Matthew Clevenger

Matt’s 23 year insurance career began shortly after graduating from Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo. He spent several years as a specialist in Commercial insurance and has worked extensively with general contractors, artisan contractors, manufacturers, wholesalers, retail operations, and non-profit agencies.

Matt joined Mackey & Mackey in 1996 and has since expanded his insurance “appetite” to include Personal lines of insurance as well as Commercial. He is primarily located in Mackey & Mackey’s Morro Bay office.

Matt and his wife Theresa were married in 1986 and are both active in their local community. Matt is a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, a Director of the Michael Young/Lupe Sanchez Youth Foundation, a past director of the Morro Bay Chamber of Commerce, and a Long Term Care Ombudsman of SLO County & Camp Ocean Pines.

Brent Gooding

CISR

Brent graduated from Fresno State with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration & Entrepreneurship.  Before coming to Mackey & Mackey, he spent several years as a finance and loan service representative.  Brent began his insurance career in 2000, and has obtained his Property & Casualty license as well as a Life & Health insurance license.  He is truly a full service agent offering all lines of business to both Commercial & Personal Clients.  Brent believes that offering superior service is vital in today’s constantly evolving insurance marketplace.

He is also an active member in the community and graduate of the Leadership Kings Program.

Max Hill, Jr.

Max began his insurance career shortly after graduating from San Diego State University by joining California’s State Fund. He later worked for Cal Farm, Allstate and spent 15 years with The Zenith.

In 1979 Max and his wife, Irene, purchased the Morro Bay Insurance Agency. Max’s almost two decades of specialization in Workers’ Compensation proved invaluable in building his own book of commercial clients.  During this time Max realized that there is simply no substitute for experience when serving his clients’ needs. 

Max has been involved with the Morro Bay Rotary Club and served as president in 1986. He was also a board member for the San Luis Educational Foundation.  In 1991 Max sold his agency and later joined Mackey & Mackey as an agent to continue serving his clients.

Gary Stone

Gary was recruited into the insurance industry during his senior year at Fresno State and has since found it to be a challenging and rewarding career. He has enjoyed working as an independent agent with Mackey and Mackey Insurance for the past 17 years. His main focus has been in the field of Employee Benefits, but is now expanding into Personal and Commercial lines coverages as well.

In conjunction with working for his own clients, Gary is a firm believer in the idea that he doesn’t just work in the community, but he is a part of the community. He has spent seven of the last nine years on the board of directors for numerous non-profits, Chambers of Commerce, and Rotary clubs. Most recently Gary oversaw a successful fundraiser in which $5000 was raised and donated to Special Olympics .
